Funeral service for Lena M. Hokstad, 90, of Dickinson, N.D., formerly of Hettinger, N.D. was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at the Assembly of God Church in Hettinger.

Funeral service for Lena M. Hokstad, 90, of Dickinson, N.D., formerly of Hettinger, N.D. was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012 at the Assembly of God Church in Hettinger. Rev. Wickstrum officiated and burial followed at the Hettinger Cemetery. Visitations will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday afternoon.

Lena M. Renskers was born in Emmons County, N.D. to Thomas and Cora (Ver Hoeven) Renskers on Oct. 18, 1921. She was the youngest of six children and grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. Lena spent a short time working in the Hospital in Bismarck, when she met Max Hokstad. They were married in Sydney, Mont. on Feb.y 24, 1941. They began their life together, working on the farm in Adams County, North Dakota and raised three children.

After her husband passed away in 1969, Lena began traveling between North Dakota and Mexico where she did missionary work from 1971 until 1979. She then returned to Hettinger, where she once again helped on the farm with her son and his family. Lena then retired and took care of her home in Hettinger until moving to Dickinson in 2005 where she lived with her daughter and her family. For the past year she has resided at the St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Dickinson where she passed from this life on August 5, 2012.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Robert (Sharon) Hokstad, Fargo, N.D., Maxine (Dennis) Markley, Dickinson, N.D. and Leona (Harlan) Sorlien, Moorhead, Minn., 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and two great-great grandsons.Condolences to Lena’s family can be sent through our website at www.funeralhomesofcaring.com
