Donnie Irwin was born on March 28, 1960, to Wallace and Beverly (Abbey) Irwin in Hettinger, N.D. He attended Hettinger Public School and graduated in 1978. Following his graduation, Donnie, joined the Army National Guard and went to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. for training. After returning home to Hettinger, he went to work at Orval’s Implement where he received courses on servicing engines.
From there he went to work for Letvin Equipment Company in Hettinger where he was a mechanic and received his CDL. While obtaining his CDL he found his love for driving; working for several companies until buying his own truck in 1990.
He met and married Ronda Turbiville in 1985. To this union they had one daughter and adopted Ronda’s twins from a previous marriage. Several years later they divorced.
He operated his own equipment until his passing and enjoyed “tricking” out his equipment with all the bells and whistles. Donnie enjoyed building derby cars, watching and attending any race events, especially helping his brother and nephew with their mini sprint cars. He loved gathering with family and friends, visiting and playing dumb farmer.
Donnie was a very special man who touched many lives throughout his travels in life. He was looking forward to his daughter moving home and having the opportunity to spend time with his grandbabies and spoiling them.
Grateful for having shared in Donnie’s life are his daughters, Kellie Irwin, Hettinger, N.D. and Becky (Chad) Berg, Thief River Falls, Minn.; son, Leland (Shannon) Irwin, New Salem, N.D.; nine grandchildren, Brianna, Taylor and Brian Berg, Joshua, Cody, Charlie and Madison Irwin and Haley and Elijah Irwin; his brother, Ricky Irwin, Williston, N.D.; his sisters, Lucinda Hedges, Viola Prazma and Mary Irwin, all of Billings, Mont.; nephews, Eric and Nick; and nieces, Heather, Emily, Amanda, Alicia and Kara.
