ALCO receives business pride award

The Hettinger Chamber Business Pride Award has been given to ALCO.  Posted June 14, 2013

The Hettinger Chamber Business Pride Award has been given to ALCO. ALCO is a Home Town Variety Store with a variety of products from clothing to hardware. They employ five full-time employees and four part-time employees.

ALCO has been awarded this for providing our community with quality and reasonably priced products and also for their most recent donation of more than $23,000 in products to the Hettinger Public School. This donation was phenomenal and well received by school staff. ALCO is a true asset to Hettinger and our surrounding communities.

ALCO is a Kansas based corporation with stores around the United States. The store originally came to Hettinger in 1999 as Duckwalls. When the corporation closed all their Duckwalls stores they felt the Hettinger Store had enough sales to warrant it to remain, and due to that change in 2010 the store became ALCO.

AlCO’s current manager is Bob Cordes. Cordes has been the manager since 2007. Cordes stated that he appreciates the support the community has given the store through the years.

Cordes said “I was surprised when ALCO made the decision to donate the hardware supplies to the school and I am pleased they were happy to receive the items.”

Cordes also said he hopes for a bigger store soon.
