VA BHHCS employee promoted to Colonel in the Air Force Reserve

Dr. Loren Janke, a VA Black Hills Health Care System (BHHCS) Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, was promoted to the rank of Colonel in the Air Force Reserve after 28 years of military service.

Dr. Loren Janke, a VA Black Hills Health Care System (BHHCS) Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, was promoted to the rank of Colonel in the Air Force Reserve after 28 years of military service.

Col. Loren Janke is the Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) to the Command Biomedical Sciences Corps (BSC) Executive, Office of the Command Surgeon, Air Education and Training Command (AETC), Randolph AFB, Texas. He will soon be the IMA to the Air Force Pharmacy Consultant/BSC Associate Corps Chief for Pharmacy.

Col. Janke mentors and advises over 400 BSC officers at 14 medical units. He supports more than 10,000 personnel assigned to two medical centers, 11 medical treatment facilities, and a training group, serving more than 500,000 beneficiaries.  He also assists the Command BSC Executive in formulating and executing corps programs to 18 unique scientific Air Force Specialties.

Col. Janke entered military service in 1986 as a weapons loader for the 119th Fighter Group, North Dakota Air National Guard.  In 1995, he received his active duty Air Force commission and served five years as pharmacy chief at F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. and Ellsworth AFB.  He then entered service as an IMA reserve pharmacist at Ellsworth AFB and Randolph AFB, Texas. In that time, he also served as Interim Chief, Medical Readiness Programs and Requirements Branch, Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), Hickam AFB, Hawaii. While there he overhauled their medical readiness reporting, guaranteeing 100 percent compliance. He was the by-name request Subject Matter Expert Exchange Coordinator, PACAF Angel 12-4 Nepal and the 2012 Medical Readiness Training Exercise Dominican Republic mission pharmacist, filling 9.8 thousand prescriptions for 8.5 thousand patients in 10 days.

He has been a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at VA BHHCS for six years. Col. Janke and his wife Dannelle live in Spearfish. They have two lovely daughters and one grandson.
