The day after Friday has come to be known as Black Friday, when the Christmas deals are supposed to be the best of the year, and people have been known to line up for hours waiting for those could of items they have to have at a great price.

In Hettinger, however, it’s not just all about the sale tickets on the TVs.

This will be the 28th year of Hettinger’s Annual Wake Up Santa!

A Candy Coated Christmas is the theme for this year, and on Friday, Nov. 29, the official fun begins with fireworks at 5:45 p.m., followed by a snake dance down Main Street.

The Christmas Tree and Centennial Square will hold a lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. and the lighted parade will begin immediatly after that.

Those participating in the parade are asked to line up north of Kennedy’s at 5:30 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Clause will be at the Fire Hall with candy sacks for kids 12 and under, along with hot chocolate to warm up chilly fingers and toes.

The Hettinger Fireman’s Ball will begin at 8:30 and end at 1 a.m. at Suzie’s Woodfire. Chamber bucks and fire extinguishers will be given away during the evening of fun and dancing.

Many businesses will be open until 8 p.m. with specials or just to have people stop in for open houses and just say hi.

There will be sign ups to win $50 Chamber Gift Certificates at participating business through Dec. 17. Drawings will be held on Dec. 11 and 18 on KNDC so be sure to sign up.

Santa will be making a live broadcast on KNDC from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16 so any child who hasn’t had a chance to write their Christmas Letter will be able to talk with him on the phone.

Again a best-decorated yard contest will be held, with one winner per category receiving a $25 chamber gift certificate.

The categories will be: Nativity, Santa-Reindeer Display, and Best Overall. Judging will occur the week of Dec. 8 by committee.
