A Hettinger firefighter catches his breath after helping to extinguish a house fire Monday afternoon in Hettinger. The fire was noticed about 12:45 p.m. when a resident saw smoke coming out of the home and called 911. Six units were sent to the scene, said Hettinger Chief Mark Faller and 17 firefighters. The house suffered extensive damage, but no one was home at the time and there were no injuries. Firefighters stayed on the scene for about two and a half hours, said Feller, and he and two others stayed onsite until the fire marshal arrived from Bismarck to assist with his investigation. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
