What could be the final spelling bee was held at Hettinger middle school Wednesday. Open to students in fifth through eighth grade, the bee is held in two parts – written and verbal. “This is the last year for it,” said Elementary Principal Lyn Hendry. “The state doesn’t want to pay for I anymore.” Top four winners are (front) first place Jesse Qualls, second place Jared Mattis, (back) third place Beth Holzkamm and fourth place Ty Warbis. First and second place will advance to the State Spelling Bee in Bismarck.
