Hettinger-Scranton’s (HS) Babe Ruth team took two from the Bowman nine in only their second home outing of the year on 9 Jul.

After breezing by in the first game with a 13-1 victory, they just got by with a 12-11 decision in the second game.

Jared Mattis picked up the pitching victory in the opener, walking six and striking out six while giving up only one hit.

HS recorded 12 hits with Ethan Dupper leading the way going five for five, scoring twice and driving in one run.  One of Dupper’s hits was a run scoring double.

Also recording doubles were Hudson Pierce, Jordan Dilse, Mack Buckmier and Brett Christopherson.  I thought Buckmier’s double was the most impressive as he took a golf like swing on an inside pitch and hit a bullet over a surprised center fielder.

I called it a day after the first game and missed the second game as I had spent the morning and half of the afternoon taking in the Midget season ending tournament at Bowman.  I believe age is catching up with me.

As it turned out, according to coach Nolan Dix, the second game did not count anyway as they have a make-up game with Bowman on 15 Jul. Good attendance at the game as I estimated the crowd at around 75.

The Wednesday “Burgers & Brats” day was held right next door in the renovated granary.  When I stopped to purchase a drink and brat after the first game the chips were already gone.

I talked to Jim Goplin, Executive Director of the Adams County Development Corporation, and he said that was one of the better nights for raising money that “Burgers and Brats” has brought in.  He figured they brought in around $1,100 net which went into the cost of the renovation of the granary.
