Des Lacs-Burlington (DLB) came a long way for a legion baseball game but came away with a 7-0 win over an undermanned Bears team.  Brandon Pierce was held out due to an injury and Hudson Pierce was taking in the Major League All Star game in Minneapolis.

Damon Mellmer started on the mound for the Bears and went four innings, giving up six runs, three hits, walking four and striking out five.  The first inning was his downfall as combination of three walks, a couple of errors behind him, wild pitches and passed balls led to four runs.  Des Lacs-Burlington only managed one hit in the inning.  Kye Erickson pitched the 5th and 6th innings giving up one run, one hit, walking three and striking out four.  He got out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th with only one out by striking out the next two hitters.  Austin Fitterer finished the game in the seventh by retiring the three batters he faced.

I thought the Bears were the better team, but their heads were not always in the game.  DLB’s pitcher was not overpowering, but he did throw strikes as he only walked two and struck out nine while giving up only two hits.  Also, wild pitches and passed ball were minimal.

The Bears have an away game at Hazen on 21 July and then their regional tournament at Garrison with Hazen, Des Lacs-Burlington, Surrey, Renville County, Stanley and Garrison, 23-26 July at Garrison.
