Tanner Strand loved to hunt.

His enthusiasm for being outdoors was celebrated last week in his memory during the annual Tanner Strand Memorial Pheasant Hunt.

Strand, 21, of Hettinger, passed away in 2008 when his vehicle rolled in Hettinger.

“He hunted a lot … he’s got a lot of wall mounts,” Strand’s father, Trevor Strand said before the first hunt in 2009.

Strand, the youngest son of Trevor and Carrie Strand, grew up near Hettinger and graduated from Hettinger High School in 2006.

His passion for ranching and farming blossomed at an early age as he grew up on a farm.

He was active in 4-H, he won numerous awards for his steers, sheep and showmanship skills.

Whether it was with a bow, rifle or shotgun, Strand spent his autumns wandering the prairies “for the perfect buck or rooster pheasant.”

He would hunt with anyone who would go along.
