For more than a decade, Western Horizon Living Center’s Activity Director Debbie Dannenfelzer has provided the residents with fun and excitement for the holiday of love.

On Feb. 12, Dannenfelzer hosted her 16th Valentine’s Day party where a king and queen were crowned.

Prior to Dannenfelzer assuming the Activities Director position, there was not a Valentine’s Day celebration, so she started one.

Selecting a king and queen during the festivities was something Dannenfelzer thought would make things memorable for the residents.

“I thought, oh what fun to have a Valentine King and Queen and make it real special for them,” Dannenfelzer said. “It makes valentine’s day special”

During the resident council meeting candidates are selected. This year three were chosen for each the guys and the gals.

The lady candidates included Bertha Mattis, Helen Gordon and Lucylle Doerr. The gentleman selected were Gene Anderson, Henry Isdal and Norman Kopren.

Mattis was crowned queen and Kopren was crowned king.

“They’ve enjoyed it thoroughly every year. And we’ve had some memorable times at that valentine party,” Dannenfelzer said.
