Funeral services for Leo Evans, age 45, of Bismarck, ND, will be held at 11:00 a.m. MT on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Hettinger, ND.  Rev. Paul Lint will officiate with burial to follow in the Hettinger Cemetery.

Funeral services for Leo Evans, age 45, of Bismarck, ND, will be held at 11:00 a.m. MT on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Hettinger, ND.  Rev. Paul Lint will officiate with burial to follow in the Hettinger Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the HIT Building, 2640 Sunset Dr. NW Mandan, ND, with the Rev. Paul Lint officiating.

Leo Ray Evans was born on May 27, 1969, in Hettinger, ND, to Clifford and Geraldine “Jean” Evans.  He grew up on the family farm until 1978, where he moved to Grafton, ND.  The following year, he was placed with a foster family in Carrington, ND, where he attended school for two years.

Leo moved back to the family farm and for the next five years, lived there and attended school in Bowman, ND.  In 1985 Leo relocated to a group home in Mandan, ND, also attending school in Bismarck, ND, until his graduation in 1990.  Following his graduation, he lived in an adult group home through Enable Inc.

Leo attended a sheltered workshop in Mandan, where he was trained in janitorial services, and worked on a cleaning crew at the Fairfield Hotel and later the Super 8.  He also spent time in the workshop, where he prepared vegetables for various food items.

He recently moved to his own apartment in Bismarck and was proud to be on his own.  Leo participated in and truly enjoyed the Special Olympics.  He enjoyed animals, and loved coming home to the farm and playing with the dogs.

Leo passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

He is survived by his mother, Geraldine “Jean” Evans, Lemmon, SD; three brothers, Donald Evans, Lemmon, SD, Clyde Evans, Bismarck, ND and Lynn Evans, Bowman, ND; maternal grandmother, Genevieve Randall, Hettinger, ND; two aunts, Vi Kostelecky, Lemmon, SD and Janice (Fred) Rios, Mandan, ND; two uncles, Josh (Deb Beld) Randall, Hettinger, ND and Warren Randall, Hettinger, ND; and numerous other relatives.

Leo was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Evans, in 2012; one brother, David in 1971; maternal grandfather, Cecil Randall in 1997; and paternal grandparents, Vern (1998) and Flora (2008) Evans; one uncle, George Kostelecky; and one cousin, Richard Kostelecky.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday morning.
