One of our Nighthawk wrestlers recently benefited from some extra off season training as Logan Lachowitzer was a member of the ND Team #2 that took part in the Junior National Duals in both freestyle and Greco.  The competition was held June 23-27 in Tulsa, Okla.  His record was 1-3 in freestyle and 2-4 in Greco.  Approximately 29 states had teams in the competition.

I read where Dickinson State recruited two 6-foot 11-inches basketball players.  They are Thomas Cowen from Mt. San Antonio College in California and Brandon Jamar of Los Angeles Southwest College.

Took in the Babe Ruth game against Buffalo until they temporarily called the game in the bottom of the third inning.  Hettinger-Scranton was already on top 10-0.  Mason DaFoe was pitching for the home team and had seven strikeouts after three innings.  Brady Dillon put in a nice heads up defensive play in the third inning.  A Buffalo batter had a hit down the right field line and was trying for a triple.  The ball was thrown to the third baseman but it sailed over his head and the runner headed for home.  Dillon, who was the left fielder, had hustled in to back up the third baseman, retrieved the ball and threw to the catcher who easily tagged the runner out.  This is Buffalo’s first season in Babe Ruth and according to one of their fans it was also their first game of the year.

The Hettinger-Scranton Babe Ruth team lost a double header on July 6 to Beulah 17-12 and 11-1.

I went to the Hettinger golf course for the first time this year and the course looks great.  I need to drag out my clubs and head out that way some morning.  I noted their leagues on the bulletin board and they have quite a few.

Tuesdays are the women’s leagues with 10 teams each in the two leagues.  I don’t think the standings were up-to-date but the team of Cindy Arndorfer and Lea Kugel were leading one league and Raeann Were and Dara Massad were leading the other league.

Wednesday is mixed couples league with three divisions and six teams in each division.

Thursday is the men’s league with three divisions and eight teams in each division.  Greg Jensen and Jeremy Fordahl were leading in division A, Ryan Jacobson and Jeff Smith in the B division and Norris Erickson and Brad Robinson in the C division.

I was unable to confirm with the Legion coach on next week’s schedule.  I made a mistake in last week’s weekly schedule.  The Midget tournament was scheduled for 8 Jul in Hettinger and the Little League is scheduled for 15-16 Jul in Bowman.
