Hettinger retains cup at annual Dakota Ryder Cup Challenge

The annual Dakota Ryder Cup Challenge between Hettinger, Lemmon, SD and Mobridge, SD was held at the Lemmon Country Club on August 8, 2015.

Sixteen Golfers from all three towns participated on the newly improved greens at the Lemmon Golf Course, where the efforts of their grounds crew and golf board were greatly appreciated by all players.

The challenge started off with 2-Man Better Ball matches where Mobridge took an early lead with 80 total points, followed by Hettinger at 69.5 and Lemmon close behind with 66.5. Top point pairings were Tyler Wolff and Shannon Dale for Mobridge with 11.5, Greg Erlacher and Joe Sackmann for Lemmon with 10.5 and Bleaux Johnson and Nolan Dix for Hettinger with 11.5 points.

After the Alternate Shot format, Mobridge still held the lead with 157.5 points, followed by Hettinger with 146 and Lemmon with 128.5.  Top point pairings were Roger Hoffman and Shannon Dale for Mobridge with 12.5, Corey Deutscher and Dale Bender with 11 for Lemmon and Bleaux Johnson and Aaron Koenig for Hettinger with 12.

In the Singles Matches, which is half of the total points for the cup, Mobridge gained another 129 points, Lemmon increased their total by 156 points followed by Hettinger gaining another 147.  Top points in the singles were Stuart Schlomer with 12 for Mobridge, Jeffrey Johnson and Josh Sackmann each won 13.5 points for Lemmon and Barry Melling gained 12.5 for Hettinger.

At the end of the day, Hettinger retained the Cup with 293 points, Mobridge finished with 286.5 points followed by Lemmon with 284.5 points.  This was the closest event these towns have seen in the previous years matches.

Next August, the Dakota Ryder Cup Trophy and the third place Travelling Monkey will head to Oahe Hills Golf Course in Mobridge for the 2016 Dakota Ryder Cup.
