The Night Hawk wrestling team has been seeded No. 2 for the State Dual Tournament.  Carrington is seeded No. 1, Lisbon No. 3 and Central Cass No. 4.  On Feb. 18 it will be Carrington vs Minot Ryan and Central Cass vs Beulah-Hazen in the upper bracket.  In the bottom bracket it will be Hettinger/Scranton RTH vs Linton/HMB and Lisbon vs Velva.

Talking with head wrestling coach Randy Burwick, and one of his assistants, Trevor Steeke, I was told that Colbey Steeke now has 187 wins, just seven wins away from breaking Kayle Dangerud’s record of 193 wins.  Of those 187 wins, 100 were via the pin.  Steeke will have a good chance of breaking the win record at the state tourney.

Of the 11 Night Hawk wrestlers who qualified for the individual state tourney, nine are seeded.   Kyle Burwick at 113 and Colbey Steeke at 220 are both seeded No. 1, Alec Andress at 145 is seeded No. 3,  Mason DeFoe at 106 is seeded No. 5, Jacob Schalesky at 195 is seeded No. 6, Logan Lachowitzer at 152 and Cale Schalesky at 132 are both seeded No. 7 and Carlos Martinez at 120 and Isaac Anderson at 170 are both seeded No. 8.

In girls basketball, McIntosh (S.D.) defeated Hettinger-Scranton 43-36 on Feb. 15 to end the Night Hawks girls regular season.  McIntosh improved their record to 13-4 while the Night Hawks fell to 6-15.  The Night Hawks are scheduled to have their regional play-in game on Feb 19.  It looks like they may be at Mott-Regent for that game.

Hettinger-Scranton boys basketball team is still receiving votes in the latest Class B basketball poll.

Sports schedule for the coming week is as follows:

– Feb. 18-20, State Wrestling Tourney at Fargo

– Feb. 19, Girls Varsity Basketball Region Play in Game, TBD

–  Feb. 22, 23 & 25, Region 7 Girls Basketball Tourney

– Feb. 26, Boys Varsity Basketball vs Beach at Scranton

See you at the games.
