Fifty-five year resident of Oak Ridge, Gordon Child passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Oak Ridge Tennessee on Feb. 11, 2016.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia Child and is survived by his daughter and son -in-law Belinda and Rick Maurer of Woodstock, Ga.; his sisters Ellen Plews of Coos Bay, Ore. and Merline Wright of Fort Pierce, Fla.
Mr. Child graduated from North Dakota State University with an Undergraduate Degree in Civil Engineering and Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and in the late 1950’s he was part of the team responsible for the design of the Phantom jet. He retired after a 38 year career with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and K-25.
Mr. Child enjoyed a great steak cooked by his son-in-law, home improvements and building projects, the Oak Ridge Wildcats, NASCAR, and the reality show “Survivor”.
