Their public reporting site (www.medicare.gov/nursinghomecompare) includes a set of quality star ratings for each nursing home that participates in Medicare or Medicaid. This Nursing Home Compare Five-Star Quality Rating System provides residents and their families with an easy to understand summary of three dimensions of nursing home quality: health inspection results, staffing data, and quality measure data. Western Horizons Care Center, a sixty bed, skilled and basic care center in Hettinger, earned a five star rating.

The staff at Western Horizons Care Center includes a unique mix of young and more experienced personnel. LPN Barb Korang has been with the organization for almost 43 years! Dietary Manager Marilyn Skaarvold and Dietary Aid Delores Schlosser for 37 and 35 years respectively; CNA2 Jeanette Foyt has been with our Care Center for 34 years! You talk about dedication to helping our elderly! New and young employees are joining the organization monthly as well. Western Horizon’s new administrator, Mark Prischmann, is just settling in for his first year.

He has already spearheaded a new “One Room At a Time Together” Campaign, where he, along with Ted Uecker from the WRHS Foundation, are attempting to raise $145,500 for complete renovations to 42 individual resident rooms (including new flooring, lighting, painting, furniture, decorations, and sink). Over $42,000 has been raised so far, so contractors are being sought out to begin renovating eight rooms in the northeast wing immediately. We still have $103,500 to raise, but the Hettinger community and surrounding area have stepped up before (as is evidenced by their raising of over $675,000, when the goal was $500,000; for the new MRI Scanner and MRI Building Addition to the Hettinger Hospital). We are hoping that our local believers can see the need and will step up to the plate once again.

If anyone is interested in joining our efforts to raise funds for these worthwhile improvements to our resident rooms at the Western Horizons Care Center, please contact Ted at 701-567-3666. Or you can contact Mark Prischmann at 701-567-2401 for a tour of the resident rooms and one of the refurbished rooms at any time. With a five-star rating, everyone can rest assured that our care center is second to none. Now let’s make our facility a little nicer for mom and dad. Thank you. Onward!
