Once again Kennedy’s Fresh Foods stepped up to the plate with their 6th Annual “Beer-B-Q” fundraiser for the Hettinger Country Club (HCC) this past Saturday, April 30th.

Kyle, Steph, Mike, Kathy, Tenille, Brad and all the rest of the Kennedy’s team came through with an over-the-top beer tasting event, including over ten home-brewers with numerous beer varieties; ten specialty beers; an amazing spread of pulled pork, beans, potato salads and desserts; plus over 150 beer drinkers; all culminating in over $9,200 raised for the Hettinger Country Club.

Ticket sales and advertising began over a month ago, creating the largest crowd ever! In fact, so many people attended, it’s the first time in the history of this event that we ran out of commemorative beer mugs (in this case, steel solo cups!) and food! But true to form, Kyle is ordering commemorative solo cups for all who did not receive one that night! There were more home-brewers than ever before, coming from Rapid City, Bowman, Haynes, Lodgepole and Hettinger. Bob Mack won the People’s Choice Award for his rich coconut stout (like a smooth liquid Almond Joy!) and Westin Chapman from Rapid City won the Brewer’s Choice Award for his lively citrus beer (a grapefruity-flavored summertime beer).

When everyone had enjoyed the awesome meal and had sampled most all of the amazing variety of beers, a Live Auction took place to raise more funds for HCC. Eleven awesome items brought in $4,275 net for HCC, including Denver Broncos tickets from Tony Muggerud and Rochelle Shirek purchased by Jonathon/Ria Eaton; 6 months of flower bouquets from Prairie Rose Floral purchased by Ted/Sheri Uecker; His/Her Apple Watches from Kyle Kennedy purchased by Tony Muggerud and Steph Kennedy; a WOW Floating Trampoline and Battery Jump Starter Kit from Ted & Sheri Uecker purchased by Greg/Tonya Jensen and Sam Jesfjeld from the Woodfire Grill; a Cub Cadet Gasless Weedeater provided by HCC through AgPro Equipment and purchased by Dr. Mark/Lanae Kristy; a Pecan Cheesecake from Rochelle Shirek purchased by Kyle Kennedy; a Growler of Beer from Erika & Kevin Pagel purchased by Sam Jesfjeld; a Beef Bundle and Cooler from Uecker Yards purchased by Vern/Dyanne Erickson; and a Chocolate Cheesecake from Jackie Muggerud purchased by Tenille/Brad Guthrie.

During the beer tasting, the HCC bar area hosted a game of hi-low card playing, which got people into a drawing for a Shock Top Keg donated by Brad/Tenille Guthrie (won by Trina Burns), 5 pounds of  Alaskan Bairdi Crab donated by Jensen’s (won by Mary Vliem), and two beer glass sets gifted by Uecker’s (won by Jeff Smith and Bleaux Johnson). There was also a pop-a-shot basketball shooting contest, with finalists entered  into a drawing for the cool pop-a-shot hoop and a Taylor Made golf bag. Connor Kelley was the lucky winner of those terrific prizes from Kennedy’s! Special thanks to Tenille Guthrie and Christy Schmitz for orchestrating these two events and raising another $310 for the cause!

Since Hettinger Country Club has been given a $100,000 donation, we will begin plans for a new clubhouse. To continue with this momentum, Uecker Yards and Ted/Sheri Uecker put out a $10,000 Matching Challenge for any business or families to match their $10,000 – so we can add $20,000 to the development and planning for a new Clubhouse at HCC. More on this later.

Special thanks to Kennedy Fresh Foods for their yearly donation of tickets, food, organization of brewers, specialty beers, gifts, door prizes, etc. Also a huge thanks to Aaron Roseland for successfully auctioneering our Live Auction; Alan Timm and Tony Muggerud for smoking the pulled pork; Cindy Ham and Jay Ohm for bar tending and hosting; Tenille Guthrie and Christy Schmitz for organizing the games; all of the amazing home brewers who donated all of their awesome beers to the over 150 people who attended; all of the suppliers, buyers and bidders of live auction items; and all of the ticket sales people, ticket buyers and beer drinkers. We appreciate your support of this fun event and therefore, Hettinger’s Country Club. We have some terrific challenges ahead at HCC with our water drainage project, our tree project and our new clubhouse – but we plan to keep improving HCC as best as we can. For you, our children and our area community.
