The Legion Post 115 dropped their first two home games of these season during a doubleheader with Surrey on Tuesday, June 21.

Damon Mellmer was on the mound for the Bears and he went the distance. Battling the heat, Mellmer pitched a complete game. He took the loss but only allowed three runs.

Cole Osendorf and Hudson Pierce each had two hits. Pierce had a double and drove in one run.

Brandon Pierce went 1-for-3 with a double and scored a run.

Brandon Pierce started the second game and went five innings, allowing three runs. He was relieved by Jarad Mattis for the final two innings.

In the bottom of the seventh inning with one on and the Bears in front by a run, Mattis allowed a home run, clinching the walk-off victory for Surrey.

Hudson Pierce went 1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Mason Dafoe had two walks and Mattis knocked in a run.

Head coach Nolan Dix said his team played well and they got great outings from their pitchers. But the arms they faced were probably the best on Surrey’s squad.

“I thought we played well, had good pitching all night,” Dix said. “We went against their two best pitchers probably.”

The Bears play at home again on June 28 against Baker at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. On July 1, they travel to Burlington for two games.
