The Hettinger/Scranton Babe Ruth team had an easy time in downing Belfield 12-0 on July 8.  They also won the second game, but according to coach Logan Robinson, the second game does not count in the standings.

Mason Defoe started for the Bears and pitched a complete game as the it only went five innings due to the 10-run rule.  Defoe allowed only two hits, both in the first inning, while striking out 10 and walking only two batters.  Hettinger/Scranton batters only accumulated seven hits as wildness on the part of Belfield pitchers aided many of the runs.  I had roughly 16 wild pitches and passed balls for the Belfield pitching and the catcher.  Belfield pitching also gave up four walks and hit three Hettinger/Scranton batters.  Defoe, Jeran Anderson and Ty Warbis all had two hits apiece for the Bears.

With the second game of the doubleheaders not counting in the standings, I have Hettinger/Scranton finishing with a 5-1 record in their limited schedule.  The team has some good returning talent for next year and they need to beef up their schedule.

Their opening game in the Region tournament is on July 14, 2:00 p.m., against Washburn.  The tournament is in Hettinger and is scheduled for July 14-17.
