Kyle Burwick continues to improve his wrestling skills as he placed fifth in the nation at the 2016 USAW Cadet FS Nationals held in Fargo, July 20-22.

Sheldon COLUMN BOXKyle Burwick continues to improve his wrestling skills as he placed fifth in the nation at the 2016 USAW Cadet FS Nationals held in Fargo, July 20-22. Some of the top wrestlers in the nation compete at this very competitive tournament. Kyle had 91 wrestlers in his weight class of 113 and he went 5-2. One of his losses was an 8-6 decision to Adam Busiello of New York, who has been rated as high as No. 2 in the nation. According to Coach Randy Burwick he believes Kyle is the first ND Class B wrestler to achieve All-American status going back as far as 1990.

All the summer recreation programs are done for the year. The Post 115 Bears baseball team went 2-2 in the ND American Legion Baseball Class B West Region Tournament held at Dwyer Field at the Athletic Complex of Shiloh Christian School, July 19-23. They opened the tournament with a tough loss 8-6 loss to Crosby. They won their next two games over Garrison 8-2 and Renville Co. 8-5 before being eliminated by Surrey, 4-3. Hazen went on to win the tournament.

Sarah Dschaak managed this year’s summer baseball and softball programs. Paul Jamison, Brett Christopherson, Jacob Dix, Tayler Burwick and Brianna Robinson coached the Coach/Pitch, T-Ball, Little League and girls softball teams.

Playing for the Coach/Pitch team were Kolby Melling, Kyler Schalesky, Hayden Defoe, Derek Kari, Bryce Kari, Brady Burrer, Blake Larson, Owen Praus, Cameron Wieland, Cole Jochim, Jackson Hallen, Riley Hasbrauch, Trevor Dalley, Skye Kramlich, Isaak Guthrie, Daniel Estrada, Gavin Parnow and Jacob Galbreath.

District 5 Babe Ruth champions Beulah had a rough time at the State Babe Ruth tourney at Grafton. They lost to host Grafton in the first game, 15-5, and were eliminated by Thompson by a 14-1 score.

LOOKING BACK: The Scranton Miners defended their title by defeating Hettinger 77-51 in the 56th Hettinger Holiday Classic, Dec 15, 2007. Dustin Honeyman scored 20 points, Quinn Deide put in 18 and Reed Ruggles scored 13. Hettinger was led by Josh Smith 12 points and Josh Jeske had 10. Mott squeaked by Dickinson JV 59-57 for third.
