Braced against the wind, some of the almost 50 bus tour participants of Selected Homestead Dwellings in Adams County listen to Dave Merwin, Sunday, Sept. 4, as he talks about the Colonel Bliss rammed earth home (on the hill to the right). Other early homestead structures visited on the third Dakota Buttes Historical Society/Museum (DBHS/M) bus tour were the Tom Walker stone house, the John Gerbracht sod house, and the Edwin Erickson American four-square home. Participants gathered for supper at the museum after the tour. The bus tour was the final event of the six-week feature, Women Homesteaders of the Northern Great Plains, sponsored by DBHS/M with support from the State Historical Society of North Dakota (SHSND), the Adams County Library of Hettinger and the North Dakota State Library, Bismarck. The special SHSND exhibit, Land in Her Own Name, will be at the museum through September 14.
