The junior high Night Hawks won their second straight game as they downed the Richardton-Taylor-Hebron (RTH) Raiders 32-18 at Scranton on Monday, Sept. 12. This was their second straight win after losing their opening game to Beach and then downing Grant County.
The Night Hawks got on the score board quickly as quarterback Jeran Anderson took off around the right end and scampered 58 yards for a touchdown. Anderson and Connor Andress both scored in the second quarter while the Night Hawk defense was doing a good job in holding RTH to one touchdown. Andress scored on a 40-yard run and Anderson scored on a 60-yard run late in the second quarter. The Night Hawks were in a fourth-and-10 situation, close to their own 40 yard line and instead of punting, Anderson got the call and went all the way for the score.
Cade Warbis added a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The final touchdown by the Night Hawks was Anderson again as he weaved through and around defenders to score from 45 yards out in the fourth quarter.
I had Anderson, Andress, Warbis and Tommy Buckmier leading in the tackling department on defense. Anderson also had a fumble recovery and Bradee Clapper corralled an interception. This is a good team with excellent players at the skill positions. The linemen just need to keep working on their blocking and putting pressure on the opposing running back.
Their next scheduled game is with Lemmon at Hettinger on Sept. 20.
