In a low scoring game the junior high Night Hawks won their third straight game as they downed the Lemmon Cowboys 14-8 at Hettinger on Sept. 20.

The Night Hawks scored first in the first quarter on a 33-yard touchdown run by Jeran Anderson. The defenses took over from there and the first half ended with the Night Hawks on top at 6-0.

Lemmon broke into the scoring column in the third quarter when they intercepted a Night Hawk pass and ran it back 55 yards for a touchdown and were good on their conversion to take a 8-6 lead. Turnovers came in a streak as later Jack Ginter recovered a Cowboy fumble, but on the next play the Cowboys intercepted another pass. Then on the Lemmon’s first play after their interception Anderson returns the favor with his own interception.

Midway in the fourth quarter it looked like Anderson had another touchdown, but it was called back due to an illegal block. Both offenses were shut down as the Night Hawks were stopped on downs and Lemmon also could not gain a first down on their possession. But Cade Warbis finally put the Night Hawks ahead late in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard scamper. Their conversion was good and the score stood at 14-8.

Lemmon had one chance to tie the game or gain the lead but Night Hawk Tommy Buckmier put an end to that as he sacked the Cowboy quarterback on back-to-back plays. Lemmon could not manage a first down and the Night Hawks ran the clock out.

I had Anderson, Conner Andress, Warbis and Buckmier leading in the tackling department on defense.

Their next scheduled game is at Mott-Regent on Oct. 3.
