The Funeral Service for Bertha Mattis, 84 of Hettinger, were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 3016 at the Assembly of God Church in Hettinger. Pastor Allen Wickstrom officiated with burial in the Hettinger Cemetery.

The Funeral Service for Bertha Mattis, 84 of Hettinger, were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 3016 at the Assembly of God Church in Hettinger. Pastor Allen Wickstrom officiated with burial in the Hettinger Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers were Roger Hehn, Tim Mattis, John Kelly Martin, Perry, Leon, and Richie Kirschemann.

Bertha Lorene Kirschenmann was born Nov. 22, 1931 in Regent, N.D., to Fred and Emelia (Koch) Kirschenmann. She grew up on a farm southwest of Regent and attended the Alden Schol #2. The family moved to Hettinger and Bertha started working at the hospital. She retired in 1991 when her health began to fail. She was united in marriage to Oscar Mattis on Nov. 12, 1976.

Bertha passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Bismarck.

She was active in the Assembly of God Church.

Surviving family members include her husband, Oscar, Hettinger, ND; 2 sisters, Lenora Bolyard, Folson, Calif.; Rosella (Rennie) Tichnor, Concord, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold and Reuben Kirschemann.

Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 29 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger.
