Eye on southwest ND sports

According to NDHSAA’s web site it looks like the Region 7 volleyball playoffs are set to start on Nov. 4 with the play-in games.

Sheldon COLUMN BOXAccording to NDHSAA’s web site it looks like the Region 7 volleyball playoffs are set to start on Nov. 4 with the play-in games.  The top four teams, (1)Trinity, (2)Hettinger-Scranton, (3)Hazen and (4)Heart River have first round byes.  It looks like the Night Hawks will take on the winner of the Mott-Regent, Bowman Co. play-in game in the second round which is scheduled for November 7.  The number one and number four teams are in the top bracket and two and three are in the bottom bracket.

Molly Holt had a good match against Faith as the Night Hawks downed them 3-1 in sets on Oct. 27.  Holt led the team with 12 kills along with 2 blocks.  She tied with Abbie Kludt in the digs department as each of them had 12.  Tayler Burwick led in assist with 28.

The 9-man playoff tournament is down to four teams.  Shiloh takes on Thompson and New Salem-Glen Ullin will battle North Prairie.   The semi-finals take place on Nov. 5.

There is a new team in Region 8 high school baseball as the co-op of Belfield and South Heart has been approved to have a team this coming spring.

With the change in football alignment for 2017-18 the opening game for the Night Hawks and a few other Region 5 teams will not be in Shiloh.  The Night Hawks will open with Lemmon in Hettinger on Aug. 18, 2017.  Too bad, I liked that Shiloh opening format.

Sports schedule for the coming week is as follows:

–  Nov. 7, 8, 10 Region 7 Volleyball Tourney at Trinity

–  Nov. 7, Boys Elementary Basketball vs Bowman at Scranton

–  Nov. 8, Boys Elementary Basketball vs Lemmon at Hettinger

– Nov. 10, Boys Elementary Basketball at Mott-Regent

See you at the games.
