Kat’s coming home for the holidays

It’s sort of a homecoming for the Scranton native and “The Voice” alumni.

Scranton native and NBC’s “The Voice” Season 6 Top 5 contestant Kat Perkins will be making three stops in her homestate this year on her 13-show Christmas tour.

Perkins is set to put audiences in a festive mood starting with her first scheduled North Dakota performance of “Home for the Holidays: A Kat Perkins Christmas,” starts Nov. 26 at the Belle Mehus Auditorium in Bismarck, followed by a concert Nov. 29 in Grand Forks and on Nov. 30 at The Fargo Theater.

This is the second year of Perkins’s annual holiday tour, with an entirely new show and a new — her second — Christmas album set to release this month.

“Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. It’s magical,” Perkins said.  “Doing a Christmas tour last year was a dream of mine, and we went into it not knowing what to expect. We were blown away by the response.”

Perkins’s 10-show tour last year sold out at nearly every stop.

The show has continued to evolve and is billed as a fun night for the entire family. It features traditional Christmas songs with Perkins’s staple modern flair.

“My family had a tradition of getting together each year and going to some sort of Christmas concert,” said Perkins, daughter of Mark and Gail Perkins, formerly of Scranton. “I looked forward to that every year growing up and it’s why we’ve worked hard to create a fun, interactive, night that the whole family can come together and enjoy.”

Last year’s shows saw the crowd become involved throughout the show, with a local soprano choir joining Perkins and her band at each stop. Tickets even include an option that includes a meet-and-greet with the popular songstress and Santa Claus.
