The Lady Night Hawks ended their season with a victory, and a trophy.

Hettinger/Scranton defeated the Killdeer Cowboys 69-61 in the Region 7 tournament to take home third place.

It was a slow start for both teams, with the Night Hawks struggling early in the post.

But midway through the first quarter, they started clicking on the perimeter. Freshman Alyssa Andress hit a three pointer and tied it at 6-6 with three minutes left.

Eighth-grader Samantha Oase gave the Night Hawks another tie with less than a minute left after she was fouled on a made basket.

The Cowboys scored to go ahead again, but Oase put in a layup to tie it up once again at 14-14 before as the first quarter came to an end.

Opening up the second quarter, sophomore Abbigail Kludt made five straight points after a three pointer, a steal and a two-point shot.

Hettinger/Scranton capped off a 7-2 run early to take a 29-25 lead by the time both teams went to the locker room for the halftime break.

Killdeer briefly gained the lead back midway through the third quarter. But the three-point success the Night Hawks had all night helped to take a 42-38 lead after three quarters.

Midway through the fourth quarter, both teams were trading threes. But The Lady Night Hawks had much more success. For the game, Killdeer made one three point shot. But Hettinger/Scranton, successful from the arc most of the season, scored seven out of 15 opportunities for 21 points.

The Cowboys, down by 11 points, went on a 5-0 scoring run. On their next possession, Hettinger/Scranton stepped out of bounds and head coach Kelly Pierce called a timeout.

Andress stopped the run with a layup, but with under three minutes left, Killdeer managed to cut the lead to just two points.

Killdeer managed to get the lead down to just one point with barely a minute left on the clock. But Kludt sealed the deal by making five free throws to end the game.

Congratulations to sophomore Abby Kludt and sophomore Molly Holt on being named to All-Region 7 Team.
