On Friday, April 29, 2017, representatives of Nostdahl-Liptack Architects, David Parrill Construction and Enercept, Inc. traveled to Hettinger, ND to present the “Agricultural Building of the Year” award to the owners of the West River Veterinary Clinic there.
The award is presented annually by the Structural Insulated Panel Association to recognize “Buildings of Excellence” in a variety of categories throughout North America.
The veterinary clinic building was designed by Nostdahl-Liptack Architects of Phoenix, Arizona and was constructed for optimum energy efficiency. In addition to being constructed completely of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) manufactured by Enercept, Inc. of Watertown, South Dakota, the building features Geo-Thermal heating and cooling systems, high-efficiency windows and doors, and highly-efficient LED and fluorescent lighting. David Parrill Construction of Bottineau, N.D. served as the General Contractor on the building.
Senior Veterinarian Ethan Andress explained that, after decades in their original location and several expansions, West River’s service area had increased to cover a 75 mile radius around Hettinger and had grown to six veterinarians and a support staff of 19. There simply was not enough room to continue to grow. Ultimately the decision was made to secure a larger property and build a new, state of the art veterinary clinic and hospital on Hettinger’s east end. The new facility opened with much fanfare in April, 2016. In addition to clinic and hospital services, the facility features a large farm and ranch supply retail showroom, veterinary pharmacy, a 24-hour coin-operated dog wash, and a community room.
The Structural Insulated Panel Association is a Trade Organization representing Structural Insulated Panel manufacturers nationwide. Their annual “Buildings of Excellence” awards recognize exceptional SIPS buildings in a variety of categories. Enercept, Inc. of Watertown, S.D. claimed three first-place awards at the Association’s annual meeting in Austin, Texas in January of 2017.
