Eye on Southwest ND Sports

The Hettinger Coach/Pitch baseball season ended on July 12 with a tournament at Baker, Mont.  They won the tourney finishing 5-0 with wins over New England, Richardton, Scranton and Belfield twice.  They have a roster of 21 kids and during the season they only lost one game.  Amanda Kari and Carson Schalesky were their coaches.  Congratulation!

The Post 115 legion baseball team received the No. 2 seed in the South West Division tourney and their first game will be on July 20, 7:00 p.m. CST at Dwyer Field on Shiloh campus in Bismarck.  They will take on the winner of the Bismarck Capitals and Dickinson Volunteers game.

I took in the championship game of District 5 Babe Ruth tourney at Washburn.  The Hettinger-Scranton Bears played a great game and now head for the state tourney at Thompson.  Washburn has a nice baseball field.  Stands are covered and the way the steel structure is built there are no birds nesting and placing their droppings on the seating area.  The announcing area is conveniently locted at the top and center of the seating area.

Region 5 players selected for the annual Shrine Bowl at Grand Forks on July 23: Richardton-Taylor-Hebron: Adrian Hauck, Ethan Kuntz, Kyle Kuntz; New Salem-Almont-Glen Ullin: Bailey Mormon, Noah Thiel, T.D. Norton, Tanner Slag; Mott-Regent: Brady Wegh; Grant County-Flasher: Connor Marion; Beach: Dawson Bishop, Ray Wegner.

Sports schedule for the coming week is as follows:

July 24, Basketball Skills Night Camp at Hettinger

July 24-26, Volleyball Camp at Armory Grades 3-12

July 28- Aug 1, Babe Ruth State Tourney at Thompson

See you at the games.
