The 9-man playoffs are set and Region 5’s No. 1 seed New Salem/Glen Ullin has a first round bye and will face either Divide Co. or North Star on Oct. 21. In the Oct. 14 first round schedule No. 2 seed Shiloh will go against Surrey, No. 3 seed Beach playing TGU and No. 4 seed Mott-Regent/New England taking on Ray/Powers Lake.

For The Record
I’ll go with all Region 5 teams winning their first round games with Beach having the toughest game.
The Bowman Bulldogs are doing well after being bumped up to 11-man. They are currently tied for third place with Hazen and Killdeer in Class A, Region 4 with a 4-2 record. Their remaining game is with Beulah, with Beulah being favored to win. Bowman’s two losses are to Hazen and Killdeer. So for the Bulldogs to reach the playoffs they must defeat Beulah. A loss knocks them out.
After losing to the Black Hawks 3-2 in sets the New England Tigers took on Trinity and lost 3-1 in sets. Three sets were decided by two points. Only the third set was a route as Trinity won 25-8.
I asked head cross country coach Stephanie Howe on how she felt the boys and girls teams will do at the regional meet at Bowman on Oct. 14 She provided me the following; “We are looking forward to Saturday. The kids have been training hard the past few weeks and it will definitely show in times on Saturday. We have been competing with a lot of class A this year so to have all Class B at regionals should show the strengths we have. The cooler wet weather is a change from what we have been training in and it will be a little challenging, but I think we can power through it. It should be a great meet and we are hoping for some personal records from each athlete!”
Sports schedule for the coming week is as follows:
– Oct. 14, Regional Cross Country Meet at Bowman
– Oct. 14, JV Volleyball at Hazen Tourney
– Oct. 16, Boys Elementary BB vs New England at Scranton
– Oct. 16, Cross Country Meet at Killdeer
– Oct. 17, Varsity Volleyball vs at Mott-Regent
See you at the games.
