Sad to hear of the passing away of longtime Beach coach Bob Waldal from prostate cancer. He achieved over 300 wins coaching basketball with many of those wins at Beach. He was originally from Los Angeles but played and starred at Dickinson State in basketball in the mid-60s.

The Hettinger-Scranton Night Hawks defeated Lemmon (SD) 3-1 on Oct. 12 by scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-14 and 25-14. As of Oct. 15 Lemmon had a 16-8 record. The Night Hawk C squad won 2-1 and the Junior Varsity won 2-0. Assistant volleyball coach Reba Resner stated that both teams played well!
Glen Ullin-Hebron helped out the Night Hawks in defeating New England in recent volleyball action. That gave New England three region losses along with the Night Hawks. Any tiebreaker in the standings is broken by head-to-head competition. The Night Hawks should finish in the top four of the region to stay away from the region play-in game. By defeating Mott-Regent in three sets on Oct. 17 the Night Hawks improved their region record to 6-3 with only two region games remaining with Richardton-Taylor and Bowman.
New Town won the boys Class B West Region Cross Country meet held at Bowman on Oct. 14. Bowman County finished second the Night Hawks finished 19th. Top boys finisher for Bowman Co. was Brian Miller, 12th. Watford City won the girls division with Bowman Co. placing sixth and the Night Hawks 12th. Top girls finisher for Bowman was Alexis Miller tenth and Night Hawk Sidra Sadowsky placed 16th.
The Night Hawk junior varsity volleyball team had another good tourney. They finished number one in their pool which included Trinity, Hazen C squad, Killdeer and Glen Ullin. In the championship game they faced Hazen’s JV and lost to finish in second place.
Harding County finished their football season with an 8-0 record and are now scheduled to take on Kadoka Area in the first round of the SD 9-Man B class playoffs on Oct. 19. Kadoka Area finished with a 5-3 record.
