Football 9-Man Playoffs After First Round

This is an early look at the 9-Man playoffs after first round action.
For The Record
Beach took care of Towner-Granville-Upham (TGU) 40-8 behind the passing and running of quarterback Josiah Orluck. He was 11-16 in passing for 128 yards and rushed for 88 yards including three touchdowns. They now take on the No. 1 seed out of Region 6, Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood (MLS). MLS had a region record of 6-0 and an overall record of 7-1. Their only loss was to Shiloh back on Aug. 22 by a 54-12 score. They also beat TGU 42-6 in a non-region game. I believe Beach has a legitimate chance of winning this game but I’ll give the edge to MLS.
Shiloh easily got by Surrey, 50-16. Canaan Fagerland rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Jaden Mitzel passed for 52 yards and two scores along with one rushing touchdown. Up next for them is St. John the No. 2 seed out of Region 4. They finished with a 5-1 region record and 6-2 overall. Their losses were to the No. 1 seed out of Region 4, North Prairie 32-20. In their other loss they were shutout 30-0 by the No. 1 rated 9-Man team in the state, Cavalier. I’m giving the nod to Shiloh although St. John has good size with 13 players listed at 185lbs or more.
Mott-Regent/New England (MRNE) had a close one but outlasted Ray/Powers Lake 38-32. Josh Wallace stood out for MRNE as he ran for three scores, passed for another and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Their next opponent will be North Prairie who finished with a region record of 6-0 and an overall record of 8-1. Their only loss was a non-region game to Thompson, 40-26. Thompson finished the season as No. 4 rated 9-Man team in the state. I’d like to see MRNE win this game but I feel North Prairie will prevail.
New Salem/Glen Ullin (NSGU) had a first round bye and will now face Divide County who defeated North Star 54-12. Divide Co. is the #2 seed out of Region 4 with a region record of 5-1 and an overall record of 6-1. Their only loss was 62-28 loss to Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood. NSGU will have their hands full but I feel they will win this game.
It could be an all-Region 5 quarterfinal as Shiloh and NSGU should be favored and Beach and MRNE have outside chances of winning.
Other first round scores were Divide County 54, North Star 12; Hankinson 70, North Border 14; May-Port-CG 22, Linton-HMB 16; New Rockford-Sheyenne 36, Kidder County 34; and Thompson 41, Oakes 7.
