We Want Your Ideas for The Future of Hettinger

The Hettinger Chamber of Commerce and the Adams County Economic Development Corporation are hosting an “Open Community Forum” on Wednesday, Nov. 15, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Hettinger Theater on North Main Street. Everyone who attends will enjoy free popcorn (via the Chamber and ACDC). Refreshments and candy will be available to help our Theater’s bottom line. Anyone and everyone from the Hettinger or Adams County area is welcome to attend.

This is an open forum, where anyone can stand up and say what they think our community needs, or what they want in our community. Maybe it’s a community fitness center or a brewery or a computer store or a place to have your nails styled. Or maybe we need to get the bowling alley re-opened so our kids have a place to go and something to do. The ideas are endless and the sky’s the limit.

The format of the event will be straight-forward: No swearing, no ranting and raving about the negatives, no name-calling, no hogging the mike – just concise ideas, where no idea is a bad idea. And everyone is given the respect to say their peace – within reason. If someone carries on too long, we will step in. And move forward. We plan to write down all of the terrific ideas generated and eventually form a strategic plan for our community.

Since the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota and some of their staff were in Hettinger on Oct. 26 for their “Main Street Initiative,” we think it’s important that we continue with this momentum and move forward with growing Hettinger. The state of North Dakota has a lot of terrific programs, which we plan to start applying for. However, we need your input before we can move forward with strategic planning.

About 50 people attended the Governor’s visit and some who didn’t were miffed that they didn’t know about it. We welcome your participation at this Open Community Forum. Plus, we welcome your assistance as we move forward with growing Hettinger. We can either improve our community or stay with the status quo. Let’s Get In Gear Hettinger!
