Funeral services for Donald “Donnie” Archibald, age 80, of Lemmon, S.D., were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger. Fr. Charles Zins officiated with followed by burial in the Hettinger Cemetery.
Donald Ray Archibald was born on July 20, 1937, in Hettinger, to Lowell and Sophie (Ekemo) Archibald. He was raised on his family’s farm southeast of Lodgepole, S.D. Donnie attended rural Cole country school and graduate from Hettinger High School in 1955. He served his state and country in the North Dakota National Guard from 1956 to 1962.
Donnie helped his family with their ranching operation and later met his forever partner, Rosie Holzer. They were united in marriage on Feb. 22, 1966 and to this union two children were born, David and Deanna.
Always ready with a joke or a wonderful story, Donnie brightened all our lives with humor wherever he went; weather meeting old friends or quickly making new ones. He kept busy off the ranch helping neighbors, friends and community, including being a Grand River Grazing Association board member for over 25 years. Raising cattle, bison and crops he enjoyed watching sports, going fishing and spending time with friends and family.
Donnie passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; son David (Marla) Archibald; daughter, Deanna (Rick) Prestrude; grandchildren, Abigail and Trevor Prestrude and Rayne Archibald; brother, CW (Suzie) Archibald and numerous nieces and nephews.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Sophie and two brothers, Lloyd in infancy and Lowell Jr.
Visitation was from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at the Centennial Chapel of the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Hettinger.
