Boys Night Hawks Basketball Preview

This year’s boys Night Hawk basketball team returns a lot of talent and the expectations will be high. Trinity is not the favorite in Region 7 this season but you can never count them out. They graduated their big man six-four Shawn Stolta along with four others. Beulah returns many lettermen and is considered the favorite although their head coach Jeremy Brandt stated in the Hoopster that not many of those kids saw varsity time last season. Beulah will take on the Night Hawks at Hettinger on Jan. 9 and Trinity is scheduled to play the Night Hawks at Scranton on Dec 19. I suggest you get there early for a seat as it should be a packed house.
Night Hawk Head Coach Jeremy Dietchman provided me his inputs on this year’s team after their first practice on Nov. 27.
“We have all but one guy returning, Bo Wilson decided not to go out, but I’ll focus on the guys we have going out. There were a few new kids who came out, we’ll see how many of them stick with it before I know what our numbers will be. We had 16 guys able to practice the first night, three were waiting on physicals.”
“We return 6 seniors, 3 juniors, 3 sophomores and a freshman from last year’s team. We will go from being one of the most inexperienced teams in the region to one of the most experienced. We return 5 guys who all started at times for us last year.”
“We will be very guard heavy this year, we have some long, athletic kids who can really get after it defensively. As always, defense and rebounding will be our key to success.”
“We have a crazy early season schedule, we play nine games from December 8th to December 28th. Fans will have a few chances to see us play before Christmas, we play Grant County in Hettinger on the 11th, Lemmon in Hettinger as part of a double header with the girls on December 16th and a big region test on the 19th in Scranton against Trinity.”
“I have an assistant coach this year as Stuart Dilse will be helping out. We as a program would like to thank all of our supporters, we truly appreciate seeing fans in the stands.”
