The Nighthawk Classic Wrestling Tournament is next week with approximately 19 teams. They are Baker, Bowman-Beach, Broadus, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte, Circle, Dickinson JV, Harding County, Beulah- Hazen, Kenmare, Killdeer, Lemmon-McIntosh, Linton-HMB, Miles City, Moorcroft, New Salem-Almont, New Town, Standing Rock and Watford City. Moorecroft, WY, came away with the championship of the 2017 Night Hawk Classic wrestling tourney. After winning titles from 2013-2015 they were dethroned by the Nighthawks who won the 2016 classic.

The Nighthawk junior high girls came in 6th place in the JH basketball tournament at Heart River, Dec. 15-16. They lost to Mott-Regent in the opening game, downed Heart River Gold and then lost to Bowman Co. Mott-Regent went on to win the tourney. The JH boys went 0-3 in their tournament held at Bowman, Dec. 14 & 16. I was really impressed with the play of Night Hawk Brian Bartholomy.

The Trinity Titans basketball team has some talented athletes as offensive lineman Jacob Kubas and wide receiver Noah Sickler are preferred walk-ons NDSU and UND respectfully. They both also do very well on the basketball court.

After winning state in 2016 and finishing runner-up last season the Four Winds/Minnewaukan team has started the season with a 0-3 record.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Sports schedule for the coming week is as follows:

– Dec 27-29, Boys Basketball at Mandan Holiday Tourney

– Dec 28-29, Varsity Wrestling at Rumble on the Red Tourney at Fargo

– Dec 28-29, Girls JV Basketball Tourney at South Heart

– Jan 4, Girls Basketball at Glen Ullin-Hebron.

– Jan 5-6, Nighthawk Classic Varsity Wrestling Tourney at Hettinger

See you at the games.
