Those who generally depend on outdoor activities find themselves limited in what they can do around town and for those who have home gyms of their own, may miss the comradery of being active around others. Doing your best to be healthy and workout throughout the winter months can seem to be an exercise in itself, however some may be pleased to know there’s always a place to go.

The Wellness Center of West River Health Services, located in Hettinger, is here to provide everyone with the space and tools for what they need to succeed and stay active. From Pilates to power squats, the Wellness Center’s got you covered.

For cardio, the Wellness Center boasts three treadmills, two ellipticals, a stationary bike, and a step/ cross-trainer. Treadmills and ellipticals are standard machines, but offer amazing workouts that can help you reach your personal goals. Although running may not be everyone’s cup of tea, you can always enjoy a brisk walk or light jog that the treadmill provides. Ellipticals vary in stride and difficulty and assist your movements for a smoother workout.  If you’re looking for something with more intensity, both machines can accommodate you with higher intensity regimens for all you seasoned individuals.

Wanna pop-a-squat, but still want to be fit? No problem! The stationary recumbent bike at the Wellness Center can give you the fantastic cardiovascular workout from a treadmill without any strain on the tush. The bike’s movements are non-impact, easy on the limbs, and is also joint-friendly to let you smoke those calories without damage to your body.

The step-machine works a lot like the stationary bike, however it gives you more of an all-body workout. The machine isn’t limited for use by only skilled athletes, as it can be used by pretty much anyone young and old alike.

Strength and weight training is no stranger at the Wellness Center. A set of free-weights, ranging from light to heavy, are available in addition to two stations exclusively for squatting and lifting. Benches are also available to give you more options in building muscle.

Aerobic exercises and basic routines like sit-ups, chin-ups, push-ups and pull-ups have their very own space. Yoga mats are there for your journey to serenity andsmaller tools such as Pilate bands and an ab roller are ready to help you blast your core.

The Wellness Center certainly makes good in utilizing a smaller space to its full potential. There’s quite a bit to explore and try out and nothing that will make you bored. A big screen tv, loaded with a plethora of channels, is ready to entertain you on your quest for a healthy lifestyle. There’s even a boombox that can play “Eye of the Tiger” as you take out your frustrations on their punching bag.

Not sure where to begin? That’s okay! All the cardio machines haveseveral pre-set workout programs integrated in all the machines. You can also see how many calories you are burning as you are using them and most have the capability to tell you where your heartrate is at.There are also certified personnel in the Wellness Center of which you can consult to understand more about what you want to accomplish.
