EYE on South West ND Sports

Congratulations to Kyle Burwick and his signing to wrestle with the University of Wisconsin.  I attended the signing ceremony on Nov. 20 and it was well attended.  It was announced at the ceremony that Kyle is the first Hettinger athlete to sign with a Division One school.

For the record

Region 7 representative Dickinson Trinity lost to Oakes in three sets in their opening match of the 2018 State Class B Volleyball tournament.  They then came back and downed Kenmare 3-0 and followed that up with a victory over Center-Stanton three sets to one for fifth place.

Thompson defeated Oakes 25-20, 23-25, 13-25, 25-16, 15-13 during the championship match of the NDHSAA Class B Volleyball State Tournament on November 17 at the Minot State Dome.  It was Thompson’s fifth state championship in program history.

I asked Night Hawk Head Volleyball Coach Ria Eaton on her thoughts about the season.  She responded:  “Well I think we ended the season on a high note. We came out with a 3rd place win and we were at regionals all week which was one of our goals and I think a great accomplishment. Of course everyone always like to be playing championship but I’ll take a 3rd place and ending on a high note. But all in all I feel it was a great season with success. As far as next year we are losing a great setter and middle. Both of the spots we will be looking to fill but for the most part the rest of the team is back and we have some upcoming talent that should be able to lend a hand. I don’t think next year we will we be lacking much for experience as majority of our starters are back. As always the lady nighthawks thank the community parents and media for the support and coverage on our season. Be on the lookout this summer for incoming camps!!!!!”
