Night Hawk Girls split in opening games

First action for the Night Hawk girl’s basketball team was the Linton Shootout, Nov. 30 & Dec. 1.  Up first was the Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter Imperials.

The Imperials were ranked #3 in a pre-season poll for District 6.  The Night Hawks took an early lead and were up 14-8 after the first quarter and increased their lead at half time 32-14.  Night Hawk post player Samantha Oase did most of the scoring with 12 points in the first half.  The Imperials held Oase to two points in the second half but her teammates stepped up and contributed 31 and the Night Hawks gained a 65-36 win.  Defensive pressure caused the Imperials to make 23 turnovers for the game while the Night Hawks only had 11.  Scoring for the Night Hawks were; Abbie Kludt 18, Sam Oase 14, Alyssa Andress 8, Briana Sanford 10,  Bailee Pierce 4, Quinn Mellmer 6, Carolyn Schultz 2, Abbi Steeke 2 and Katrina Poss 1.  Kludt was named Prime Time Player for the game.

The following day the Night Hawks faced Linton HMB who was ranked  #5 in District 6.  This was a very close game with the Night Hawks losing by three, 59-56.  Three points was the largest quarter stop lead for the game as Linton was up by one in the first and three in the final.  The Night Hawks led by two after the second quarter and only one after the third.  Leading the scoring for the Night Hawks were Samantha Oase 23, Alyssa Andress 16 and Abbie Kludt 12.  For the Lions sophomore Erica Umber and freshman JayCee Richter each had 20.

Next up for the girls is the Killdeer Roughrider Tournament scheduled for Dec. 4, 6 8.  Bowman is also in the tourney and both the Night Hawks and Bulldogs are in opposite brackets and could meet up in the championship game.
