Rambouillet wool the aim of Supervised Agriculture Experience

Hi, I am Kaden Schauer, my SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience) project is to cross-breed Rambouillet ewes to Polypay bucks and to breed their lambs to Polypay bucks.

At the end of my project, I will have a purebred Polypay line of sheep that has a wool influence from the Rambouillet. I started my project in 2016 with 13 purebred Rambouillet ewes. Last year, I bought a Polypay buck with a grant I received from the North Dakota FFA Foundation to help with my SAE project. I plan to end my project in 2020, with a total of 50 ewes. I will also learn more about how to productively raise and care for sheep and their needs.

I gave 2 main goals. The first is to successfully raise and produce sheep while keeping accurate records. In order to have a successful project, I must keep accurate finances, maintain profitability, and produce healthy sheep. My second goal is to combine Rambouillet genetics with Polypay genetics.

I plan to keep the good Polypay traits such as good prolificacy and moderate muscling. In addition, the project will add some Rambouillet traits to my Polypay line of sheep, such as good wool and a smaller frame. Hopefully, I will have a high prolificacy, fine wool, smaller framed Polypay as a result of my project.
