A short week this week due to the holidays.

The Night Hawk girls will start the New Year with a 7-1 record as they easily disposed of the Harding Co. Ranchers on Dec. 21 at Scranton.

They finished the first quarter with a 20-3 advantage and kept adding to their lead as they won 61-20.  The fourth quarter was played with a continuous clock due to the mercy rule.  Night Hawk defense created 25 Rancher turnovers.  Leading the way for the Night Hawks was Alyssa Andress with 21, Sam Oase 12 and Abbie Kludt 10.  Andress was named Prime Time Player for the game.

– Mandan has won nine NDHSAA Class A girls basketball state championships (1995, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008).

– Bottineau defeated Langdon 47-37 in the 1999 NDHSAA Class B girls basketball state championship game.

– Beach has won three NDHSAA Class B girls basketball state championships (1989, 1990, 2010).

– The first NDHSAA-sponsored girls hockey state tournament was 2003.

– Carrington has won eight NDHSAA Class B wrestling team individual state titles (1987, 1988, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 2015, 2016.

– New England St. Mary’s won NDHSAA Class B wrestling team individual state championships in 1969 and 1970.

NDHSAA FACTS: The first North Dakota Class B boys basketball state tournament was played in 1933 at Valley City. The tournament field consisted of New Salem, Fairmount, Benson County, Cando, Carson, Max, Grafton and Mohall.

The Night Hawks did well in the Team Scholar area.  In volleyball Hettinger/Scranton 3.82, football Hettinger/Scranton 3.59, Class B Plays Hettinger 3.68.  (Source NDHSAA Dec. 18 bulletin).
