Funeral services for Owen A. Oleson, 83, of Reeder, ND will be Monday, January 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Reeder, ND. Rev. Deb Molbert and Rev. Alan Wickstrom will officiate and burial with Full Military Honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
Owen passed from this life at the David M. Dorsett Heathcare Center in Spearfish, SD on January 1, 2019.
Owen Arlie Oleson was born April 25th, 1935 in Harding County South Dakota to Arthur Clarence Oleson and Helen Marie (Kaitfors) Oleson. Owen was raised on the family farm south of Reeder and graduated from Reeder High School in 1953. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1958, stationed in Baumholder Germany where he met his wife Karoline. They had two children, Owen, and Barbara. He served for 20 years retiring in 1978. At that time he moved his family back to Reeder and started a second career at American Colloid, finally retiring.
Owen attended Athens Community College and received Associates Degree in Electronics which later transferred into his love of building and operating computers.
His many accomplishment were Certificate of Achievements for Ballistic Missile Repair, Land Combat Missile Repair, Honor Graduate Missile and Munitions Center and School. Also receiving the Meritorious Service Medal for exceptional meritorious service as Senior Instructor, Directorate of Training, United States Army Missile and Munitions Center and School, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
When at American Colloid he worked as an apprentice electrician and finally became state certified as a Master Electrician.
Locally he was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, DPEC Board, and Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award.
Owen and Karoline loved to travel and visit friends sometimes traveling back to Alabama, Germany, and Norway.
Owen enjoyed visiting with his many friends that he found over the years, often times over a beer.
Owen is survived by his, son Owen and Pauline Oleson, Grand Junction, CO, grandchildren, Jenna Oleson, Danielle Oleson and Luke Oleson, daughter Barbara and Steve Verhulst, Ralph SD, grandchildren, Rachel (Colin) Ellis, great grandchildren, Daniel and Allison Ellis, Alicia (Chad) Porsch, great grandchildren, Brayden and Peyton Porsch, Elizabeth Verhulst, sister, Deloris Gann.
Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur C. and Helen Oleson, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ardis and Don Packer, Nan and Jim Nash, one brother-in-law, Ken Gann.
