Paul Anderson passed away peacefully the morning of January 15th, 2019 at the West River Regional Health after a courageous battle with a very rare cancer Choroidal Melanoma in 2017. In July the family went to Cincinnati for his first surgery which started in his left eye and in 1 year moved to his liver and continued to grow. He took treatments which made it worse, so we quit treatments to have a little quality of life. He fought up to the end but went peacefully with his family at his side.
Paul was born to Howard and Lois Anderson on April 9th, 1959 in Lemmon South Dakota. He left home at a very early age to work in Lemmon with his brother-in-law Warren Erickson. At this time, he lived with his sister and brother-in-law Monica and Nick Schafer. Then returned to the family farm where his dad, brother and himself drove draft horses feeding cattle and sheep also doing some field work with their team of horses. Paul broke many teams of horses and many saddle horses including a team of large donkeys. He was always up for a challenge.
Paul enjoyed building different crafts and a lot of welding and woodworking with no fancy tools. In 1993, they started a dairy which the entire family worked together to make it succeed.
Then in June 19th, 1976 he was united in marriage to Marcella Dewey. On October 1979 they were blessed with their son Joshua which was his little buddy and was until the end. Then in February 1982 a daughter was born Melanie which he always called his “Little Pill.”
He enjoyed riding motorcycle with Marcella they would jump on and head to the hills or almost anywhere for the air to wipe on his face. It was a part of his freedom and very much a love. In 2018 Josh and his dad were able to take his last ride to Sturgis almost 1000 miles he left his pains and troubles into the wind.
His love of his life was his wife Marcella and their children but his grandchildren Nicholas, Shaye, Shya, Brantley and Reece were his every day spirit boosters and they could put a smile on his face no matter how bad the day was. A big hug from then would always top the day.
He will always be remembered for a good joke and a good laugh. He will be missed by many.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Marcella, Lodgepole, SD, their children, Josh (Brittany) Anderson, Lodgepole, SD and Melanie (Josh) Epperly, New England, ND, his grandchildren, Nicholas, Shaye, Shya, Brantley and Reece, his siblings, Diane Haley, Clovis, CA, Monica (Nick) Schaefer, Hettinger, ND, Pete (Susan) Anderson, Lodgepole, SD, Mavis (Bob) Anderson, Lemmon, SD and Lori (Rodney) Wolff, Hettinger, ND.
