A memorial service for Mary Elizabeth (Laches) Powell, fondly known as Maribeth, age 82, of Mott, ND, will be at 10:00 am, Monday, February 4, 2018, at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Mott with Father Stephen Folorunso officiating. Burial will be in Hettinger Cemetery in Hettinger, ND.
Special music will be provided by Maribeth and Richelle Clifton, and Aly Oltmanns.
MARY ELIZABETH LACHES POWELL was born on October 17, 1936 at her rural home near Mott, ND, to Mary Adeline Reinert and Peter Fabian Laches.  She attended country school.  She was advanced in her grades and entered Mott Lincoln High School at the age of 12.  She was united in marriage to Maurice William Miller on October 19, 1953.  Five children were born to this union, Henry Peter (Carol), Terry Michael (Staci), Karen Elizabeth (Lynn Harp), Maureen Beth (Rick Clifton), and Melanie Kay (Mark Frieze).
Maribeth was united in marriage to the wonderful William Charles Powell, the love of her life, on February 21, 1987.  Maribeth was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter and aunt.  She was a loving friend to all who knew her.  Also known as “The Stanley Lady,” she was known for her big personality, sense of humor, kindness, generosity, and kindness to all who knew her.  She faithfully drove school bus for over 40 accident-free years, despite all of the elements of rugged ND.  She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
She is survived by her loving husband, children, grandchildren (Amanda, Mariah, Grant, Cole, Mitch, Hunter, Madison, Maribeth, Richelle, Denzel, Austin and Aly) and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Irene Messer and Jeanette (Jim) Sullivan; her brother Eddie Laches (Gloria); and brother-in-law, Donald Walter.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen; her sister, Mabel; and her parents Mary and Peter Laches; brothers-in-law, Mike Messer; and Maurice Miller.
