2019 NDHSAA Class B Basketball State Tourney

Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich (LEM) versus Kindred:  LEM of Region 4 finished fifth in state last year but return no seniors.

Sheldon Christenson
For the record

They have an overall record of 21-2 with close losses to Stephen-Argle, a favorite to make it to state out of Section 8A in Minnesota, and Thompson.  Region 1 Kindred has only one senior but return a talented freshmen trio of 5-11 Abigail Duchscherer (All Region and All State), 6-1 Terryn Johnson and 5-9 Kristina Freier.  They finished 6th in state last year and have an overall record of 20-3.  Three losses were to DGF, Grafton and Thompson, all close games.  DGF is Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, MN.  I’ll go with Kindred.

Thompson vs Shiloh:  Thompson finished fourth in state last year and finished second this season in Region 2 with a 11-1 record and 21-2 overall.  Grafton finished first.  Losses were to Grafton and 4 Winds/Minnwauken during the season but defeated Grafton in region finals.  Region 5 Shiloh finished with an overall record of 18-6, but finished strong going 9-1.  They did graduate six seniors last season.  I’ll go with Thompson.

Kidder Co. vs Rugby:  Region 3 Kidder Co. finished 23-0 with two wins over Linton HMB and is seeded #1 in the tourney.  They were only 15-7 last season and graduated All-State player Grace Benz.  They only have one senior in Jaslyn Magstadt who was All-District 6 and All-SCC.  Region 6 Rugby has an overall record of 20-4.  One of their losses was a close 54-52 decision to Trenton.  I believe their scheduled was tougher than Kidder Co.  I’ll go with Rugby.

Final game of the first day has Region 8 Trenton vs Region 7 Hettinger-Scranton.  Trenton’s record is 24-0 and is seeded #4 in the tourney.  An impressive record but the strength of their schedule is suspect.  Trenton has no seniors but have two year second team All State player in junior Kaity Hove and 6-1 junior Kella Norby who averaged 15ppg for their junior varsity last season.   Hettinger-Scranton is seeded #5 with an 11-0 region record and 23-1 overall.  They lost to Linton HMB 59-56 in their second game of the season.  They have height, speed, hustle and defense.  If their shooting is on, look out.  I’ll go with Hettinger-Scranton.
