The Bismarck Century girls basketball team completed an undefeated season and won its second straight North Dakota High School Activities Association Class A state championship on  March 9.  They defeated Devils Lake 69-61 in the championship game at the Bismarck Event Center.  Leading the way for Century was 6-foot-5 junior forward Lauren Ware who scored 26 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to earn tournament most valuable player honors.
Lemmon was one game away from making the SD 2019 Class B State Boys Basketball Tournament as they lost to Sully Buttes 66-53 in the SoDak 16 tourney.
Looking at the NDHSAA web site the opening date for high school baseball practice is March 18.  Checking on all the snow outside and more to come, it looks the practices will be inside.  The first Night Hawk game is scheduled for April 9 at Hazen.
An announced crowd of 3,387 fans watched the championship session of the girls Class B basketball tourney on March 2 in Grand Forks which set  a new facility attendance record for the Betty Engelstad Arena.  One of the TV announcers kept suggesting that “The Betty” should be the permanent home of the state girls Class B.  I disagree, Bismarck needs to be in the rotation.  The girls rotation schedule right now is Grand Forks and Minot only.
Sports schedule for the coming week is as follows:
     – Mar 16, Elementary Wrestling Tournament at Mandan
– Mar 23, Elementary State Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament at Bismarck
See you at the games.
