Cynthia Maxine Bonnema was born on March 2, 1959 in Granite Falls, MN to Roland and Lois (Carlson) Bonnema.  Her family moved to Bison, SD and at the age of 9 years old, Cyndi suffered life threatening injuries in a car accident.  She spent 2 years at a rehab school and had to “start over” learning everything again.  Her strength and determination prevailed and she graduated from Bison High School in 1978.
After graduation, she moved to Hettinger, ND.  Her greatest joy was spending many years working with young kids at Hettinger Elementary School to become better readers.  She was active in her church and her faith was strong.  She loved reading, playing cards and games.  She will be remembered for her Christmas Rosettes and Popcorn Cake!
In April of 2016 Cyndi was diagnosed with cancer and three days later suffered a slight heart attack, yet she remained stubborn and determined to live!  In July of 2016, she entered the Western Horizon’s Care Center in Hettinger, where she passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her two sons and pride of her life, Adam Lillegaard, of Grand Forks, ND and Nathan Veitz, of Hettinger, ND, her four siblings, Allan (Kathy) Bonnema, Spearfish, SD, Sherri (Dan) Jackson, Bison, SD, Stacy (Terry) Sandgren, Spearfish, SD and Tami (Clint) Brooks, Lincoln, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.
