It was a great day for baseball weather wise and outcome wise. The Dickinson Volunteers came to town on June 25 met up with a hot hitting ball club as the Post 115 Bears came out on top 12-5.
For the Record
The visitors had an auspicious start as their big third baseman Jaran Hughelen batting second hit a towering home run over the left field fence in the first inning. He also hit another solo shot in the third inning as he went three-for-four driving in three runs and scoring three times.
The Bears collected 13 hits and batted around in the third inning as they put the game away with five runs. Jacob Dix had a good day at the plate with three hits and drove home three runs. His big hit was a bases loaded double in the third bringing in two runs. Mason Defoe also had a good day with two hits, scoring twice and three RBI’s.
Jacob Svihovec was the starting pitcher for the Bears going three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth. He gave up two hits and one walk to the first three batters and was relieved by Ty Warbis. Warbis finished the game giving up three hits and striking out four. An excellent defensive plays by shortstop Warrick Dilse in the sixth inning kept him out of trouble. With a runner on first Dilse leaped up and caught a line drive and then fired to first to double up the runner.
Next up for the Bears is a home game on June 28 versus fellow District One opponent Belfield/South Heart.
Logan Bentz took the pitching loss going one and two-thirds innings for the Volunteers and three others pitched the final innings. The Volunteers are mainly a group of 15-16 year olds with a few being 17.
