Congratulations to the Post 115 Bears going 3-0 and winning Class B District 1 championship and win a spot in the state Class B Legion tourney in Hazen. They are scheduled to play the winner from District 7, the Fargo Bombers. The 8 team District 7 field was headlined by the #1 seed Fargo Bombers, #2 seed LaMoure Post 19 and #3 seed Oakes Post 36.

Hazen’ Babe Ruth team defeated Beulah 12-11 to win the District 5 Baseball Championship.

Canyon Lake downed Brandon Valley, 18-6 to win the South Dakota State Little League baseball tournament and has a few days off before taking to the practice field to get ready for the Midwest Region baseball tournament in Indianapolis, Ind., on Aug. 3-10.

LOOKING BACK: Hettinger’s 1983 American Legion baseball team was pretty good. They had a team batting average of .396 and averaged 11.7 runs per game. Versatile leader Bill Butterfield is batting .509. He also has a 9-1 pitching record with an ERA of 1.65. David Erickson, catcher and 2nd baseman is batting .507. Shortstop Ted Uecker is at .438 with nine home runs. Other top players are pitcher Todd Shirek (.431), 3rd baseman P.J. Brown (.404) and catcher/center fielder Rick Frank (.403). Other pitchers are Shirek (9-0), Kyle Eckman (6-0), Brown (5-1) and Uecker (1-1 as a reliever).
